Print and submit the following pieces to the Learning Abroad Center (map):

Program Track/Host Institution: University of Oslo, University of Bergen, or Norwegian University of Life Sciences


  • Proof of Financial Support
    Include a copy of a bank statement(s) (with account numbers whited out) and/or a letter from the Office of Student Finance stating the type and approximate amount of financial aid you will be eligible for during your semester or year in Norway. Students must show that they have approximately $8,000 per semester to support themselves while studying in Norway. After acceptance into the program, students will receive more detailed instructions about proving financial support as part of the residence permit application.
  • Personal Statement
    Attach a brief essay (approximately 250 words) describing why you selected this program and how it suits your academic and personal goals. Include dates and information on any previous experiences living, traveling, or studying abroad.
  • Academic Recommendations pdf (two)
    Both recommendations must be from collegiate professors, instructors, or teaching assistants with whom you have had a class. You may request both a recommendation and a language proficiency report from the same instructor and they may be obtained from instructors at previous colleges or universities you have attended. The person recommending should return the completed recommendation form to the Learning Abroad Center.

  • College Transcript
    Submit an official copy from each college or university you have attended (including an official transcript from the University of Minnesota). Be sure to submit a transcript that includes grades from your most recent semester of enrollment.
  • Method of Payment Form pdf
    Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee with this form.

  • Photocopy of Your Passport

Eligibility Requirements
This program is open to students with degree-seeking status at the University of Minnesota. Students meeting the criteria below are qualified to apply for this program:

GPA 2.75
Class Standing

Minimum sophomore standing (30 credits)

Complete at least one year of study at the University of Minnesota prior to participation

Next Steps

Here's what to expect after submitting your application to the Learning Abroad Center:

  1. The Learning Abroad Center sends an email notification to confirm your application has been received.
  2. The Learning Abroad Center emails you to request any missing items if your application is incomplete.
  3. Once the Learning Abroad Center has reviewed your completed application, we email you with your status. This email contains important instructions to follow after you have received your acceptance notice from your university/co-sponsor.
  4. The university/co-sponsor emails you with a final decision regarding your acceptance into the program. This can take a week to several months.
  5. If accepted, follow the instructions outlined in the Learning Abroad Center email referred to in Step #3. You need to pay a program deposit to the Learning Abroad Center. (Do not pay a deposit to your university/co-sponsor.)
  6. Submit additional information and materials if requested by the university/co-sponsor.
  7. If you choose not to participate in the program, email your Learning Abroad Center program contact and your university/co-sponsor contact.
