This program appeals to students who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Argentinian and Latin American culture and need to fulfill liberal education requirements.

Academic Structure

Program type: Language & Culture in Buenos Aires is a study abroad center program. Instruction is in English or Spanish depending on course selections.

Level: 1000-3000 level course work.

Term: Fall semester or spring semester, summer session.

Prerequisites: 2.5 GPA; a level of language proficiency is required for upper division Spanish courses.

Courseload: 2 intensive Spanish courses and 2-3 courses taught in English for a total of 14-17 credits for fall or spring semester; 2 intensive Spanish courses for 9-10 credits for summer session.

Global Identity: Connecting Your International Experience with Your Future
This 1-credit online course will help you:

  1. process your overseas experience and apply what you learn upon your return
  2. understand intercultural lingo and relate it to your experience
  3. reflect on the multiple layers of cross-cultural experiences
  4. market your study abroad experience for future career goals.

In addition to the optional Global Identity course, you may enroll in Spanish language and area studies courses.

Academic Fit with a University of Minnesota Degree Plan

CLA students need two years of language to get a BA, and Language and Culture in Buenos Aires is a great way to study beginning and intermediate Spanish.
