Complete and submit the following pieces to the Learning Abroad Center (map):
  • Print and Submit: Application Checklist
  • Learning Abroad Application
    On the top portion of the form, please indicate the following to help us identify your program:

    Program Name: University Study in South Africa
    Sponsor: LAC
    Program Track/Host Institution: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

  • College Transcript
    Submit an unofficial copy from all colleges or universities attended.

  • Part A Form
    Download this form from Interstudy's website. Print your name at the top of the form. The Learning Abroad Center will complete the rest of it and send it to AustraLearn on your behalf.
Complete and submit the following pieces to AustraLearn:

  • Interstudy's application (parts A-E)
    Go to Interstudy's website to download their application. Follow the directions indicated. It is your responsibility to remain in contact with Interstudy to be certain that your application is complete by the application deadline.

    Two Recommendation Forms
    Print these forms off of Interstudy's web site and follow the directions indicated. One is a general form and one is for a professor in your major.

    Six Passport Photos

    College Transcript
    Submit an official copy from all colleges or universities attended.

    Application Fee
    Submit a $35 application fee payable to Interstudy.

    PLEASE NOTE: This is a University of Minnesota sponsored program which is offered in partnership with Interstudy. This is why you will complete application materials for the Learning Abroad Center and Interstudy.

Application Deadlines


Submit complete applications to the Learning Abroad Center according to the appropriate deadline:

Academic Year April 1
Calendar Year November 1
Fall Semester April 1
Spring Semester November 1

*If the deadline falls on a weekend, submit your materials on the following business day.

Next Steps

Here's what to expect after submitting your application to the Learning Abroad Center:

  1. The Learning Abroad Center sends an email notification to confirm that your application was received.
  2. The Learning Abroad Center emails you to request missing items if your application is incomplete.
  3. Your completed application is reviewed.
  4. The Learning Abroad Center emails you within 3–4 weeks with a decision regarding your acceptance into the program.
  5. If accepted, follow the instructions outlined in the acceptance email. You need to pay a program deposit to the Learning Abroad Center.
  6. If you choose not to complete the application process, email the program contact.
