2009 International Photo Contest

Showcase your international travel photos and win great travel prizes! Past sponsors have included Rail Europe, STA Travel, Lonely Planet, Village Travel, and more! Winning photos will be selected during International Week from November 16 through November 20. Submit your entries to the Learning Abroad Center by 4 p.m. on October 30.

How to enter:

  1. Print your name, title of the photo, submission category, and the location on the back of your 4” x 6” photo. (Electronic submissions are not accepted)
  2. Submit your photo and entry form, including Photo Release Form, (can be filled out when turning in photo) to the Learning Abroad Center in 230 Heller Hall by 4 p.m. on October 30.

Rules:

  1. Contest is open to University of Minnesota undergraduate and graduate students only.
  2. Photo must have been taken outside of the U.S. and fit into one of two categories:
    • Intercultural Moments (University of Minnesota student with host national OR
    Local events, festivals, or activities)
    • Landscape or Cityscapes
  3. Photo must have been taken by the person submitting the photo.
  4. Only one photo entry per person.
  5. Entries must be color or black and white prints no larger than 4" x 6."
  6. Photos will not be returned. Please submit copies of your photo only.
  7. The winning photos will be determined by public vote during International Week at the Learning Abroad Center on Friday, November 20.
  8. Winners will be notified by email and must respond to claim their prize by November 30.

Peace Corps on Campus

Did you know that the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities tied for 9th place for colleges and universities that produced the most Peace Corps Volunteers in 2008? There are currently 65 U of M grads serving in the Peace Corps and over 1,240 Gopher alum have served since 1961. Join your fellow Gophers overseas for the toughest job you'll ever love. Peace Corps Rep, Erin McGillivray, is available to answer questions and provide you informational materials on campus. Email or call her at 612.626.5311. Better yet, stop by her office Tuesdays & Wednesdays between 11 a.m.–2 p.m. in the Learning Abroad Center, 230 Heller Hall. Or hear first-hand experiences and ask your questions at the upcoming information session on Tuesday, October 20 in the Coffman Union (Room 307) from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Glimpse Best Shot Contest

As a grand finale to 2009, Glimpse magazine is conducting a "Best Shot" photo contest. The guidelines are simple: we're asking students to send us up to three of their best photos from abroad. The prize is a
$500 travel voucher, courtesy of STA. Find out more on the Glimpse website.
