Learning Abroad Center Sponsored Programs

International Reciprocal Student Exchange Program (IRSEP)
Supports a full academic year of study. Scholarship covers tuition, housing, and meals.

Minnesota Studies in International Development (MSID)
Program participants are eligible for the Judee J. Kleffman Memorial Scholarship.

University Study in the UK, University of East Anglia
The University of East Anglia provides funds for University of Minnesota students to study at their institution. Each semester two scholarships of between $500–$1000 (depending on the exchange rate) will be awarded to students. Apply using the process for scholarships administered by the Learning Abroad Center.

University Study in Australia, University of Melbourne
Offers up to two scholarships of up to $1700 per semester or year.  Apply using the process for scholarships administered by the Learning Abroad Center. 

Bilateral Exchanges
Some sites offer a partial scholarship to participants. Program fees are based on University of Minnesota tuition.

Co-Sponsored Programs Offering Scholarships

The Alliance for Global Education

The Alliance has scholarship aid available to applicants. Students who have been accepted into an Alliance program are eligible to apply for scholarship awards of up to $2000 per student. Awards are based on financial need.

Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad

Students participating in Arcadia programs can apply for scholarships ranging from $500-$2,000. Award decisions are based upon a combination of financial need and academic merit.

CIEE
CIEE offers a variety of scholarships to students participating on CIEE programs in non-traditional destinations (outside of Western Europe and Australia), to ethnic minority and other underrepresented students, and to students studying in China, Taiwan, and Costa Rica.  CIEE also offers a general scholarship for students studying at any of their program sites. Students who receive the fee reductions (listed below) on select sites are still eligible for these scholarships.

Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs (HECUA)

HECUA offers $500 scholarships to students participating on HECUA semester programs.  In addition, HECUA offers $1,500 sholarships to first generation college students, students from low-income families, and students of color.

Institute for the International Education of Students (IES)
Students participating on IES programs may apply for IES scholarships, based on merit, academic area, and location. This is in addition to the automatic $500 fee reduction on semester and year programs.

Institute for Study Abroad-Butler (IFSA-Butler)
The Institute for Study Abroad-Butler provides special scholarships for University of Minnesota students participating on any of their semester or year-long programs. Five scholarships a year at $1000 will be awarded to students who apply using the application for scholarships administered by the Learning Abroad Center. In addition, students are able to apply directly to the Institute for Study Abroad Butler for their regular scholarships.

School for International Training (SIT)
Students participating on SIT programs may apply for SIT scholarships, based on merit, need, and location.  This in addition to the automatic $1,500 (semester) and $750 (summer) fee reduction.

Student Project for Amity Among Nations (SPAN)
Offers scholarships and loans for participants.

Co-Sponsor Fee Reductions

Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
Offers fee reductions up to $1,500 to University of Minnesota students on many of its programs, in addition to other competitive grants and scholarships for various sites or other criteria, including scholarships for minority students (see above).  Fee reductions may be limited in availability, and awarded on a first-come, first served basis.  Students who apply and confirm first receive priority. Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS)
Offers an automatic $2000 fee reduction per semester to University of Minnesota students participating on DIS.

Institute for the International Education of Students (IES)
Students participating on semester or year IES programs receive an automatic $500 discount, and can apply for other IES scholarships, based on merit, academic area, and location.

School for International Training (SIT)
Students participating on semester or summer SIT programs receive an automatic $1,500 (semester) or $750 (summer) discount, and can apply for other SIT scholarships, based on merit, need, and location.
